Are You Protestant, Lutheran, Jewish, Catholic, Quaker, or Something Else?
It doesn't matter here, as we are open to all religions. If you want somewhere where you can worship freely, New York is the place for you. As our Catholic governor in 1687, Thomas Dongan, once said, the colony observed that "of all sorts of opinions there are some, and the most part none at all" (Woog, 9). What he meant by that was our people didn't care what religion or opinion other people had. If you go to a different colony, such as Virginia, you could be prosecuted for your religion. In Virginia, the law mandates that you have to be Christian, and the church is even tax-funded! If you want to be happy with your religious freedom, come to New York.
